Why replace your tree?
Maybe it's a tree that was planted when you were born, one you climbed as a child. Maybe it's a tree that has shaded your house for as long as you can remember, virtually an old friend. Perhaps it's a stately specimen that has arched gracefully over your neighbourhood for decades, offering a cathedral-like canopy of green. Trees enrich our lives in so many ways, replacing a tree today can enrich your life now and in the future.
Replacing a tree can have economic benefits as well. Besides your house, trees and shrubs are probably the most valuable asset on your property. A well-maintained landscape with mature trees can account for 30 percent or more of a home's market value.
Call today to have a certified arborist personalised consultation on the best trees and shrubs for your property.
Mulching ... What is the best single thing I can do to help my trees and shrubs? In many cases, the correct answer can be stated in one word - MULCH. Why? Because mulching closely parallels how trees grow in nature.
Mulching is one of the best things you can do for your plant materials because not only does it help to conserve moisture around the tree's root zone, it helps to keep the soil cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Also mulching helps to prevent mower blight around the base of the trunk. Mower blight occurs when attempting to remove the grass that is growing right next to a tree trunk with power lawn mowers or string trimmers.
Mulching is simply the addition of a ring of an organic material around the base of your trees and shrubs. Many suitable materials are available, but one of the most convenient is shredded wood chips. Wood chips are readily available, inexpensive, easy to work with, long lasting, and attractive.
Tree Risk Assessment ...
To evaluate the condition of trees and recommend maintenance procedures
Tree and Shrub Pruning As trees grow, they need direction. This may be in the form of pruning, thinning, shaping or removing deadwood. Specialized training and equipment, as well as an eye for what really needs to be done, are tools of the trade for professional arborists. Pruning enhances the appearance and value of landscaping, but its importance is more than cosmetic.
Proper pruning:
- Is essential to the health of ornamental and shade trees
- Removes weak, dead, storm damaged, diseased, or interfering branches
- Can be used to train growth patterns of young trees
- Minimizes the risk of storm damage
- Provides clearance for streets, paths, driveways, structures and overhead lines
Construction Tree Preservation
Construction on your property can cause damage to your existing trees, but preventing construction damage, can add years to your tree's life. Establishing barriers (fencing) around valuable trees to keep equipment as far away as possible from the root zones is one way The Care of Trees can help your trees live longer, healthier lives. Call us to make recommendations on preventing injury during your next construction project.
Tree and Stump Removal
Due to the poor condition of a tree, and the tree's location, a removal may be necessary. Two types of removal: Mechanical Chemical. At all levels of our company, we strive to find the safest solutions for hazardous and difficult tree removal.
Insect and Disease Management
The first line of defence against pests and diseases is plant health. The healthier a tree or shrub, the better able it will be to fend off pests and diseases. At The Care of Trees our primary concern is preventative pest management through overall tree care.
Even with preventive maintenance, sometimes a tree simply cannot defend itself against pests and diseases. When this happens, our arborists assess the infestation and the tree's health, and recommend the most effective and environmentally sensitive approach possible.
